Retatrutide Regulatory Status in the UAE

What we could verify, what we could not, and why we will not turn an empty search result into a legal conclusion.

Last verified: 24 October 2026 Sources: MoHAP, EDE, ClinicalTrials.gov, Eli Lilly Next review: 24 January 2027
Direct answer

As of 24 October 2026, no registration of retatrutide as a medicine in the United Arab Emirates could be located in a primary regulatory record. Retatrutide holds no marketing approval in any country.

Separately, we examined the location data of all 33 registered retatrutide studies and found no clinical trial site in the UAE. The only West Asian locations anywhere in the programme are in Israel and Türkiye.

So the UAE position differs from India's. India hosts authorised trial sites; the UAE, on the public record, hosts none. We do not assume the status of one country from the other.

Verified: no UAE trial sites in the programme

This is a rare case where a negative finding can be checked precisely. We queried the ClinicalTrials.gov API for every registered retatrutide study and inspected the country field of every listed location.

This has a practical consequence. Because there are no UAE trial sites, the one route by which retatrutide is lawfully given to people anywhere — participation in an authorised clinical trial — does not appear to exist within the UAE on the public record.

Not verified: UAE medicine registration

We searched for a primary record from the UAE's medicines authorities showing retatrutide registration and found none. We also found no record showing a refusal.

What this finding does and does not mean

Our search did not locate a UAE registration record. That is a statement about our search. It is consistent with retatrutide having no approval anywhere in the world, which its developer has stated directly.

But we are not a regulator and this is not a legal determination. Pages elsewhere assert flatly that retatrutide “is not approved by MoHAP” while citing no official source; most of those pages are run by companies selling research peptides. We would rather tell you exactly what we checked and leave the determination to the authorities who can make it.

Who regulates medicines in the UAE

UAE medicines regulation has been consolidating, so it is worth knowing which body to approach.

Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP)

The federal health authority, historically responsible for medicine registration and pharmaceutical licensing. mohap.gov.ae

Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE)

Established to consolidate federal responsibility for medicines regulation, including registration and pharmacovigilance. ede.gov.ae

Individual emirates also have health authorities — such as the Dubai Health Authority and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi — whose remit covers healthcare facilities and professional licensing within their emirate. For whether a medicine may be sold, the federal level is the relevant one.

How to verify this yourself

  1. Emirates Drug Establishment — ede.gov.ae. Check registered medicine listings and official announcements.
  2. MoHAP — mohap.gov.ae. Check the registered drug list and pharmaceutical services.
  3. ClinicalTrials.gov — clinicaltrials.gov. Search the molecule name, then filter or read the “Contacts and Locations” section.
  4. Eli Lilly — investor.lilly.com. Regulatory filings are normally announced by the developer.

On products offered for delivery to the UAE

Searches for retatrutide in the UAE return a large number of vendor pages offering pens, vials and delivery. What is established:

  • No approved retatrutide product exists anywhere in the world.
  • Eli Lilly states the molecule “cannot be legally sold or marketed for human use” and is “legally available only to participants in Lilly's clinical trials”.
  • Material sold online has not been assessed by any regulator. Its identity, purity, concentration, sterility and contents are unverified, whatever a vendor-supplied certificate claims.
  • UAE rules on importing medicines and controlled substances are enforced by the national authorities and can carry serious consequences. We do not advise on importation and nothing here should be read as suggesting a route to obtain the molecule.
