Retatrutide is an investigational molecule. It is not an approved medicine in India, the UAE, or any other country, and it cannot be legally sold for human use. India status · UAE status

Direct answer

As of 24 October 2026, ClinicalTrials.gov lists 33 registered retatrutide studies: 13 Phase 1, 4 Phase 2, 15 Phase 3, and one pre-approval expanded access record. The programme began with a first-in-human study in 2019. Four Phase 3 trials have reported headline results; the longest-running, TRIUMPH-Outcomes, is not due to complete until February 2029.

Flow diagram of the five stages from preclinical research through Phase 1, 2 and 3 to regulatory review, marking that retatrutide has completed Phase 3 trials but not regulatory review.
Completing Phase 3 means trials finished and reported. It is not approval, and creates no lawful route for the public to obtain the molecule.

The TRIUMPH programme — obesity and complications

TRIUMPH is the Phase 3 development programme. The initial registrational set comprised four global trials that began in 2023 and enrolled more than 5,800 participants between them. All four have now reported.

Two trials worth watching

TRIUMPH-5 is the only head-to-head comparison against tirzepatide in obesity. Until it reports, every retatrutide-versus-tirzepatide comparison in circulation is a cross-trial inference. TRIUMPH-Outcomes is the only trial powered to answer whether retatrutide changes cardiovascular and kidney outcomes. At about 10,000 participants and an event-driven design, it is the largest study in the programme.

Phase 1 and Phase 2

Thirteen Phase 1 studies underpin the programme, beginning with NCT03841630, a single-ascending-dose study in 45 healthy participants that completed in 2019. Later Phase 1 work examined Japanese and Chinese participants, hepatic and renal impairment, drug–drug interaction with metoprolol, and comparability between manufactured versions of the molecule.

The Phase 2 obesity trial is the foundation of the whole programme: 48 weeks, 338 participants, mean weight reduction of 17.5% at the 24-week primary endpoint and 24.2% at 48 weeks. Its lead investigator noted participants “had not yet reached a weight plateau” when it ended — which is why the Phase 3 trials ran for 68 to 80 weeks.

How trial information reaches the public: registry records first, then sponsor announcements, then peer-reviewed publication.

Expanded access

One record, NCT07629401, is a pre-approval expanded access entry listed with a status of “available”, last updated 3 August 2026, for obesity and obesity-related complications.

What we can and cannot say about it

We note this record because it exists on the public register. The record does not publish eligibility criteria or a participant pathway, and we are not affiliated with it. We are not describing it as a route of access, cannot advise on eligibility, and cannot make referrals. Expanded access programmes are operated by the sponsor and are normally initiated by a treating physician. Anyone with questions should raise them with their own doctor.

How to check any of this yourself

  1. Go to clinicaltrials.gov and search the molecule name, or paste an NCT identifier directly.
  2. Check Status — recruiting, active, completed or terminated.
  3. Read Outcome Measures — these are declared before results are known, which is what makes them meaningful.
  4. Check Sponsor and Study Design — randomised, masked, and against what comparator.
  5. Open Contacts and Locations for participating countries and sites.
  6. Note the last update date at the foot of the record.
